Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the results of a cemented femoral component revision, with impacted cancellous allografts.
Materials and methods: The revision of femoral components, using impacted cancellous allografts and cement, were evaluated in 16 hips of 14 patients for an average period of 42.4 months. All the components were revised due to an aseptic loosening, with the exception of one case, due to a previous infection. Bony defects of the femur were determined using the Endo-Klinik classification. The Charnley Modified Merle D¡¯ Aubigne-Postel Grade was used for the clinical evaluation. The radiological changes of the impacted cancellous allografts were evaluated every month during first 2yrs, and every 3 months thereafter.

Results: Charnley classifications of A, B, and C were assigned to 6, 8 and 2 patients, respectively. Significant improvements in the pain, function and movement of hip joint were observed in the Charnley classifications A and B (P
Conclusion: Our results suggest that femoral revisions, using impacted cancellous allografts and cement, are useful in cases where femoral reconstruction is required due to bony defects. However, a long-term follow up and further controlled studies are required.
